The Story
It was during the early 20th century that the men & women of polo grounds, tennis courts, and rugby pitches transitioned to the slopes, and organizations such as the Kandahar Club of the 1920’s pioneered rich and sophisticated club settings in which alpine enthusiasts of both genders gathered to ski, race, hike, dine, & wine, while regaling the wonders of life in the mountains. Since their inception, Alpine Sports Clubs represented a share set of values and united passion of alpine sport and the members of such outfits connected deeply with one another in a shared love of skiings past, present, and future. None such club has been perhaps as influential and impactful to the world of alpine sport as that of the Kandahar Ski Club. Founded in Murren, Switzerland in 1924 by passionate alpinist, Sir Alfred Lunn, the Kandahar Club and its passionate British ex-patriots are wildly credited with the creation of today’s modern slalom and downhill racing formats.
